When I stepped off the plane in Bergen, what I did not expect was how much I would come to LOOOOOOOOVE Norway. While I didn’t get to explore as much of the country as I would’ve liked, what I did see left such a wonderful impression on me. The air was so crisp and fresh, and everything I saw looked like a postcard. I spent most of my time in Bergen and I loved how walkable this coastal city was.
I’m not much of a cold-weather person so intentionally traveling to Norway, one of the more northern parts of the world, in November seems a bit counterintuitive. But braving the below freezing temperatures was SO worth it! I really wished I could’ve seen the Northern Lights, but no such luck. While I didn’t get to see the Northern Lights, I did get to see the historic Bryggen, take the tram up to Mount Fløyen (where I ate a delicious cinnamon bun and watched it snow), and hop on a train go travel up to Gudvangen to take a trip through the snowcapped fjørds. And I ended my jaunt through the fjørds with an exhilarating (and by “exhilarating” I mean “terrifying”) train ride on the Flam Railway. Honestly, it was only terrifying because I don’t really do heights.
Even though I couldn’t really partake in the local cuisine (no seafood for me), I was still able to eat some wonderful food. I was able to get my Indian food fix from Taj Mahal Tandoori Restaurant and I ate one of the best meals of my entire life at Olivia Restaurant. If you ever eat at Olivia, seriously you HAVE to get the truffle pasta.
